Square Enix Reports Smaller Income on Fewer Releases

Square EnixSquare Enix reported its financial results for its fiscal first quarter ended June 30, 2011. While the company reported weaker results in this quarter than in the same quarter the previous year, Square Enix rightly pointed out that it did fairly well given the lack of major releases, and expects strong sales of upcoming games. For the quarter ended June 30, 2011, Square Enix reported net income of ¥690 million (around $XX million), compared to net income of ¥1.812 billion in the same quarter the previous year. Square Enix's much lower performance was largely due to the lack of big releases during the quarter (games such as the next Deus Ex are coming out shortly). Based on Square Enix's financial statement, the company appears to be focusing more heavily on Japanese gaming during the upcoming quarters than on worldwide or North American efforts.
