Square Enix Reports Annual Loss
Square Enix reported selected financial data for its fiscal year ended March 31, 2011.
For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2011, Square Enix reported a net loss of ¥12.043 billion (around $149 million) compared to net income of ¥9.509 billion in the prior year.
Yoichi Wada, President and Representative Director offered the following comment: "Our Group experienced significantly lower sales and profit during the fiscal year mainly due to weak performance of console game titles released during the year as well as the impact of a continued delay in billing for a key online title, which was newly launched during the year." In other words, their games aren't selling well and Final Fantasy XIV Online is in such bad shape that Square Enix can't charge for it. That's not the sort of news investors like to hear.
