Sony Offers Unspecified Free Stuff For When PlayStation Network Returns (at an Unspecified Date)

| | Comments (0)
PlayStation 3Sony offered an official statement update the world on the status of the ongoing PlayStation Network outage. When it comes to details concerning the cause, remedy or timeline, very little information was forthcoming. The PlayStation Network is still scheduled to be restored "shortly." Sony is implementing "a variety of new security measures" including third-party security monitoring, moving its information to a new data center and adding a new position (Chief Information Security Officer). Despite sounding good enough to hold a press conference, none of that is specific enough to sound like much more than reassurances such a data theft (the extent of which is still not clear) might not happen again.

As a sort-of apology, Sony plans to offer a "Welcome Back" program that will offer some content as a free download (the content wasn't specified and will be different for each region). Also, PlayStation Network users will get 30 days of PlayStation Plus service (existing PlayStation Plus members will get an extra 30 days). FI doesn't feel much better about that.
