Activision BlizzardActivision Blizzard reported its financial results for its fiscal first quarter ended March 31, 2011. Read on for more details...
For the quarter ended March 31, 2011, Activision Blizzard reported net income of $503 million, compared to net income of $381 million in the same quarter the previous year.

Activision Blizzard emphasized that the strong results were "driven by digital sales and the continued strength of Activision Publishing's Call of Duty and Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft franchises." Digital content (such as content packs for Call of Duty) produced nearly $100 million more in revenues compared to the same quarter the previous year, and that business has higher margins than retail products.

As usual, World of Warcraft subscriptions continue to provide a hefty, steady revenue stream for Activision Blizzard. In the first quarter, those subscriptions produced $395 million of GAAP Net Revenue, 27% of the company's total.
