Aksys Games' BlazBlue Continuum Shift II is now available for the PSP and 3DS. This fighting game is "an enhanced port of...BlazBlue Continuum Shift," bringing this hardcore fighting game to the latest portable platforms.
The Relational Group, an investment group that holds over six million shares of Electronic Arts stock, has come to an agreement with EA that will make the upcoming board elections go more smoothly. Relational Group was pushing to elect three of its own candidates at the 2011 annual stockholder meeting. To get Relational to quit making trouble, EA has agreed to appoint Ralph Whitworth to the EA Board of Directors and the Executive Compensation and Leadership Committee of the Board. In return, the Relational Group has agreed to vote for the EA Board's recommendations on proposals and nominees.
Swedish developer Fatshark has released Hamilton's Great Adventure as a download for the PC. The game features the explorer Ernest Hamilton and his bird Sasha in a puzzle-oriented platformer.
Sony Online Entertainment has launched the 60th content update for its massively multiplayer online game EverQuest II, called "The Children of War." This update continues the storyline of the Age's End Prophecy. It features a variety of improvements to the game's Player vs. Player combat system, new heroic dungeons, new raids and a variety of new quests. Just keep in mind that some of the content is restricted to those who purchased the Destiny of Velious expansion pack.
In case Activision's announcement wasn't generic enough, Sony announced that it hopes to have the PlayStation Store (and the remaining services that have been out for more than a month) up soon. To be specific, Sony said that it expects full PlayStation Network services to be restored by the end of this week. That's wonderful, but then again, Sony promised on May 1 that services would be up "shortly." The PlayStation Store has been down since April 20. We'd hold our breath, but then we would have died more than a month ago.
Nintendo plans to reduce the price of its DS Lite on Sunday. Given that Nintendo has released the DSi and 3DS since the release of the DS Lite, it's not surprising that Nintendo is happy to reduce the price of the DS Lite to spur sales on the portable units. Starting Sunday June 5 in North America, the DS Lite should retail for $100.
Confused by the headline? We were looking for something as vague as today's announcement from Activision Publishing (part of Activision Blizzard) that it plans to launch an online service called "Call of Duty Elite." Specifically, Activision plans to launch a premium, subscription-based service that will supplement purchased Call of Duty games. It's not clear what the service will offer, but it is clear that Activision wants more of your cash, so the company announced that it plans to charge for something. Read on for more details...

MadCatz announced that it is forming ThunderHawk Studios in San Diego, California to develop a series of massively multiplayer online flight simulations. MadCatz expects the first such games to launch in 2012, and are presumably designed to help build a bigger market for the flight sticks and peripheral that MadCatz manufactures.
Bethesda Softworks, part of ZeniMax Media, has released its game Hunted: The Demon's Forge for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The game is currently available in North America and should reach stores in Europe on June 3. Developed by inXile Entertainment, the game is a cooperative dungeon crawl that pits E'lara and Caddoc against a series of towns, ruins and dungeons.
Electronic Arts has released The Sims 3: Generations, an expansion pack for The Sims 3 on the PC. This expansion is available both in stores and as a download, and adds juvenile pranks to the storied simulation of life. In truth, the expansion adds items such as childhood activities, "rebellious teenage years" and weddings and parties for adults.
Earlier this month, Atari announced that it planned to sell Cryptic Studios, the folks behind Champions Online and Star Trek Online. Now, Perfect World (a Chinese publisher and developer) announced that it will acquire 100% of the equity of Cryptic Studios in return for a cash payment of €35.0 million (around $50 million). That payment is subject to certain working capital and other adjustments when the transaction closes.
It's a federal holiday in the United States, but that hasn't stopped Nintendo from releasing its usual slate of Monday downloadable games. Publisher Chillingo and developer Cobra Machine have released iBomber Defense, a tower-defense-style strategy game for the PC through Steam. The game features 22 tower-defense stages throughout the campaign mode.

The Guardian reports that certain Chinese prisoners are being forced to gold farm. According to the article, prisoners at the Jixi labor camp played games such as World of Warcraft to accumulate virtual goods that could be sold to online gamers. Prison bosses apparently found the practice more profitable than manual labor, and would beat prisoners who failed to make quotas with plastic pipes.
Matrix Games has released Frozen Synapse for the PC as a download or mail-order. The game features both a single-player campaign and multiplayer modes in which players control squads battling it out in a stylized landscape with destructible terrain.
Publisher Just A Game has released Naval Warfare as a download for the PC. Developed by Slovakian studio Games Distillery, the game has players controlling a "Super-Destroyer" in a world that mixes Victorian sensibilities with high-fantasy in arcade-style combat.
Her Interactive, a publisher with success producing games for girls (including many Nancy Drew games), has hired Stuart Moulder as the company's Chief Executive Officer. Moulder joins from Gazillion Entertainment where he was working with the Lego Universe and Marvel Super Hero Squad Online. Megan Gaiser, formerly CEO, will remain as the Chief Strategic Creative Officer for Her Interactive.
Atari has released Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale as a download for the Xbox 360 and PC. Developed by Bedlam Games, the title is an action-heavy role-playing game in which players hack and slash their way through the Forgotten Realms.
FunCom has decided to re-launch Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures for the PC this summer as a free-to-play game supported by premium subscriptions and micropayments. When the game relaunches, it will be as a download, and will "...use even more of the barbaric, brutal and sexy setting that is Howard's Hyboria." As such, the relaunched game will be unrated and will be called Age of Conan: Unrated.

THQ's game Paws & Claws: Pampered Pets 2 for the DS is now available in stores, allowing DS owners to once again run a luxury spa for pets by playing a variety of mini-games and customizing "Bling Collars" for the visiting pets.
Codemasters' game Dirt 3 is now available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. This rally racing game features races set in Europe, Africa and the United States and finally introduces snow to the franchise.
Paradox Interactive has released the King Arthur collection for the PC to stores. This compilation includes King Arthur: The Role-Playing Wargame along with the expansions called The Saxons and The Druids. The game features a turn-based campaign map and real-time fantasy battles as players govern a growing kingdom called Camelot.
Tecmo Koei has released Dead or Alive Dimensions for the Nintendo 3DS handheld. Developed by Team Ninja, this fighting game features 25 playable characters and a variety of game modes (that all feature the characters beating up on one another).
THQ has released Kung Fu Panda 2 for the Xbox 360 (with Kinect), PlayStation 3, Wii (with THQ's uDraw GameTablet ) and DS. The game has players taking on the role of the Panda Po as he and his friends defend Gongmen City in events based on the feature film of the same name.
Turbine, part of Warner Bros., has launched the Lost Legends of Eriador content update for its massively multiplayer online game The Lord of the Rings Online. The update includes new three-player instances, new skirmishes and lots of updates to the in-game store.

Atari and CDProjekt have released The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings for the PC to stores in North America. This role-playing game and follow-up to The Witcher continues the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, an anti-hero who lives in a world where moral choices are not black-and-white. Rather, morality exists in shades of blood.
THQ's SpongeBob SquigglePants, previously released for the Wii, is now available for the 3DS. This SpongeBob SquarePants-themed game includes more than 100 microgames that have players using the stylus to draw.
Xbox 360 gamers may have finished Fable III long ago, but the PC version of the game finally hit stores today. Now, PC gamers can try to overthrow and then save Albion, with a few extra elements of downloadable content thrown into this role-playing game package.

The PlayStation Network outage may finally be wrapping up. Astoundingly, the service has been down since April 20, but today the first signs appear that things may return to normal shortly. Sony is now allowing PlayStation 3 users to download the v3.61 update. The first thing the update will require is that PlayStation 3 users update their password on a verified machine upon logging into the PlayStation Network. Portions of the PlayStation Network are also now (reportedly) live in certain regions. While, after downloading the update, many network services are supposed to be available, the PlayStation Store is still under repair.
FI was able to download the v3.61 update, but has not yet been able to log into the PlayStation Network, so the rollout is not remotely complete in North America.
Sony Online Entertainment is also beginning the restoration of its game servers today, so if you can't already log in to SOE games, you should be able to do so soon.

Matrix Games, together with developer Black Hand Studios, has released Panzer Command: Ostfront as a download for the PC (or a physical version by mail). This turn-based strategy game covers the Eastern front during World War II, and includes all the content previously released as Panzer Command: Winterstorm and Panzer Command: Kharkov.
NCsoft announced that it will be shutting down the Western servers for its massively multiplayer online game Lineage. The servers will be shut down permanently on June 29, 2011, ending the seminal game's lifecycle in the West.

Kyle promised that he would update us if anything changed after the release of Brink, and here's his comment:
"I've seen a lot of complaints online about Brink, and just have to point out that, whatever the reason, I haven't been experiencing the same issues. Out of dozens of sessions, I experienced one with minor lag (not uncommon for any game that relies on an online connection) and had a ton of fun in a long series of multiplayer matches. My only difficulty last night was when my Xbox 360 crashed, but I blame that on the lightning strike and subsequent power outage, rather than the Brink software."
Kalypso Media declared that its game The First Templar has been released. While some stores report not yet having the Xbox 360 or PC versions of the game in stock, they will (presumably) arrive soon. According to Kalypso, the game is a "cooperative action adventure game, set in a dark and gritty portrayal of the late 13th Century during the Crusade where old friends become enemies, corruption spreads throughout the Church and once noble knights oppress the weak and renounce their oaths."

Konami's game Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's World Championship 2011: Over the Nexus for the DS is now available in stores in North America. This latest (of a long series) Yu-Gi-Oh game features around 4,200 cards with which players can work their way up to the World Championship from the animated series.
Sega, part of Sega Sammy, has released Virtua Tennis 4 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii to stores in North America. This latest game in Sega's tennis franchise is compatible with the motion controllers on all the various consoles and includes a lineup based on 22 professional players.
Bethesda Softworks, part of ZeniMax Media, has released Brink for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC to stores. Developed by Splash Damage, Brink features two factions engaged in class-based multiplayer combat for control of the Ark, a floating Arcology, and possibly the last bastion of civilized humanity.
Disney's Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game is now available in stores in North America. The game is available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PSP, DS and 3DS. The PC version is expected to reach stores later this month. As with other Lego-themed platformers, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game has players cooperatively reliving familiar events from the films while destroying everything in a shower of collectible Lego studs.
D3Publisher has released Dream Trigger 3D for the 3DS to stores in North America. The game is an arcade-style shooter in which players face seemingly endless waves of enemy shots in full 3D.
THQ's game MX vs. ATV: Alive for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is now available in stores. This latest installment in THQ's MX vs. ATV franchise has players indulging in off-road racing on a variety of vehicles. Not only does MX vs. ATV: Alive feature a new physics engine, it also transitions the series to a micropayment model, with the game initially retailing at $40, and offering an in-game store at which to purchase more items such as bikes and tracks.

The Ark began as a utopian beacon, a project demonstrating that humanity could live in a self-sufficient and ecologically sustainable floating city. It was even built using a genetically modified coral that sucked in greenhouse gasses while turning into strong foundation for structures. By the 2020s, global climate change accelerated so rapidly that billions living on the planet's coasts were displaced, and the global economy collapsed.
The Ark was moved to a secret location, but thousands of refugees found their way to the Ark anyway, where they were accommodated in hastily constructed "Accommodation Islands." Known as "Guests," the refugees are living in glorified slums, and remain angry at the Ark's "Founders" for their grim quality of life. The Founders are equally in a bind. The Ark's population vastly exceeds what it can sustainably maintain, and resources are dwindling as the Ark itself decays into squalor.
It's 2045, and planes and ships stopped arriving at the Ark nearly 20 years ago. The Guests want to venture forth and search for other survivors, while the Founders believe they are protecting the Guests by confining them to the Ark. Unable to resolve those differences peacefully, a desperate resistance now battles against equally desperate Ark Security to maintain order. The once exemplary Ark is now decaying and embroiled in civil war.

Nintendo of America has hired Scott Moffitt as the company's new Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. Moffitt comes from Henkel Consumer Goods, where he oversaw brands such as Dial and Right Guard. Moffitt will be reporting to Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime (who once occupied the same position himself). Moffitt even oversaw the launch of Mountain Dew Code Red at PepsiCo, so expect Nintendo's next console to be released in North America with extra caffeine.

CCP is particularly pleased that its massively multiplayer online game Eve Online is celebrating its eighth anniversary. The game has now been indulging in economic warfare and institutionalized confidence games for nearly a decade.
Focus Home Interactive, together with developer Spiders, has released Faery: Legends of Avalon as a download for the PC. Released last year for consoles, Faery: Legends of Avalon is a role-playing game that has players saving the world of Avalon from the disappearance of all magic.
Elsword has launched, meaning that the free-to-play persistent online action game for the PC has a cash-shop where players can play real world money to "enhance" the game experience. The manga-styled side-scrolling fighting game was adapted for the North American market by Kill3rCombo, a company with a name so cool you'd think they'd have renamed Elsword to something that doesn't sound like a word game from El.
Tripwire Interactive, together with Developer Power of Two, has released Dwarfs!? as a downloadable game for the PC through Steam. Dwarfs!? is a faced-paced, arcade-style game that combines elements of games such as Dwarf Fortress and Lemmings. Players strive to enrich a Dwarf colony while surviving apocalyptic perils.

Russian publisher Nival has opened an office in Los Angeles to aid the company's expansion in the North American market. Nival plans to focus on free-to-play (microtransaction-supported) games in North America, with one to launch and a second to enter beta testing this year.
Sony's network problems aren't getting any better. The PlayStation Network is still down, and it's come to light that there was also significant data theft at Sony Online Entertainment, shutting down the subsidiary's massively multiplayer online games. Of course, the lawsuits are getting underway, and all the while gamers still can't do anything involving online connected features (which is just about everything).
The U.S. House of Representatives' Committee on Energy and Commerce is even holding a hearing on "The Threat of Data Theft to American Consumers." Kazuo Hirai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sony Computer Entertainment America submitted written answers to the Committee's questions. Mostly, Sony presented platitudes, saying that Sony reacted to the situation carefully and cautiously and focusing on the general need for protecting personal data throughout the Internet. Interestingly, Sony claimed it found a file on a Sony Online Entertainment server "named 'Anonymous' with the words 'We are Legion.'" So, Sony still believes Anonymous is responsible, and has told the Committee on Energy and Commerce so.
TimeGate studios game Section 8: Prejudice, previously released for the Xbox 360, can now be downloaded to the PC. This science-fiction-themed online first-person shooter supports cooperative play and competitive multiplayer matches. All of this is on top of short campaign in which players uncover new threats to humanity's survival.

Nintendo finally confirmed what retailers have been saying for some time – a new Wii console bundle will be available (starting May 15) for $150. The bundle will include a console in either white or black, a copy of Mario Kart Wii and a Wii Wheel accessory (the plastic ring into which the Wii remote can be inserted). The bundle will also include a Wii Remote Plus controller and a Nunchuk controller.
Sony isn't playing up the release of Motorstorm Apocalypse as much as it might if the PlayStation Network were working, but Motorstorm Apocalypse for the PlayStation 3 is now available in stores. This racing game continues Sony's Motorstorm franchise in which everything from bikes to trucks can engage in apocalyptic racing action.
Sega, part of Sega Sammy Holdings, has released its game Thor: God of Thunder for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and DS. Based on the Thor film (based, in turn, on the Marvel character), the game has players saving the Norse worlds from giants and trolls.
Keldyn Interactive has released Dead Meets Lead for the PC through a variety of leading download portals. This action game is set on the island of El Mirando, where an 18th century commander faces a mystic plague and battles enormous hordes of zombies.
Paradox Interactive has released Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword for the PC, a stand-alone expansion set in the Mount & Blade universe. This tactical, role-playing game experience set in the world of the novel With Fire and Sword has players laying siege castles and battling opposing armies, adding firearms to the game's mechanics.

Publisher Mastiff announced that it has shipped Remington Super Slam Hunting: Alaska for the Wii and PC to stores in North America. The game has players tracking and killing 25 species across Alaskan landscapes using Remington-branded guns.

Big Science is busy making the world a better place... or, at least, a place where research doesn't need to follow the constraints of ethics or practicality. To that end, they'd love it if you have any spare animals lying around that they could borrow. You probably won't get Spot or Miss Tabatha back, but it's all in the name of... science! Look! – Big Science even converted a man so that he's made entirely of combustible material. He looks happy... and a little crazy... and more than a bit angry. Plus, I hear he likes cake.

Sony offered an official statement update the world on the status of the ongoing PlayStation Network outage. When it comes to details concerning the cause, remedy or timeline, very little information was forthcoming. The PlayStation Network is still scheduled to be restored "shortly." Sony is implementing "a variety of new security measures" including third-party security monitoring, moving its information to a new data center and adding a new position (Chief Information Security Officer). Despite sounding good enough to hold a press conference, none of that is specific enough to sound like much more than reassurances such a data theft (the extent of which is still not clear) might not happen again.
As a sort-of apology, Sony plans to offer a "Welcome Back" program that will offer some content as a free download (the content wasn't specified and will be different for each region). Also, PlayStation Network users will get 30 days of PlayStation Plus service (existing PlayStation Plus members will get an extra 30 days). FI doesn't feel much better about that.
