Nintendo Announces Successor to Wii for 2012 and Lower Annual Profits

NintendoNintendo announced its financial results for its fiscal year ended March 31, 2011 and announced that it plans to release a new console in 2012. Read on for more details...
For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2011, Nintendo reported net income of ¥77.621 billion (around $947 million), compared to net income of ¥228.635 billion in the previous year.


While Nintendo enjoyed robust sales of games such as the latest Pokemon title and Super Mario Galaxy 2, sales of both hardware and software declined in the United States, Japan and Europe. Nintendo also suffered a significant hit due to currency exchange rates.

Nintendo also announced that it has decided to launch a system to succeed the Wii in 2012, and will demonstrate a playable model of the new system in June.
