Disney Reports Bigger Video Game Revenues

The Walt Disney Company reported its financial results for its first fiscal quarter ended January 1, 2011. Read on for more details concerning the company's games business...
Disney's Interactive Media group (that includes the company's video game operations) reported revenues of $349 million for the quarter, compared with revenues of $221 million in the same quarter the previous year. That resulted in an operating loss of $13 million for the first quarter, compared with an operating loss of $10 million in the same quarter the prior year.

Disney noted that the higher revenues were the result of higher sale of console games such as Epic Mickey and Toy Story 3, offset by the negative impact of acquisition accounting now that Playdom is part of the group.
