Holiday Season Layoffs and Closures Pour In

| | Comments (0)
It should come as a surprise to no one that the layoff rumors are quickly swirling. Unfortunate, yes, and potentially earth-shattering to those whose lives are impacted or even destroyed, but every year the game industry starts shedding staff around this time. The big games are out the door for the holiday season, so publishers and developers just don't need as many staff as they do in crunch time. As a result layoffs are regularly being rumored to occur at places like Electronic Arts and LucasArts. Furthermore, studios often finish projects, so if more projects (and funds) aren't forthcoming, developers also have layoffs or are shut down entirely. This week, the rumors concern studios like Bizarre Creations (Project Gotham) and Activision's Budcat Creations. It's sad, but it's business as usual... it's also not over.
