PlayFirst Raises More Money and Staff for Social Games

Social gaming publisher and developer PlayFirst has closed $9.2 million of additional financing to fund social game development and added several senior staff members. Read on for more details on the debt and equity, as well as the senior hires...
PlayFirst's funding round is comprised of $5.2 million of venture capital from firms that have previously invested in PlayFirst, along with a $4.0 million debt financing provided by Comerica Bank. The funding "will be used to fund the company's continued move into the burgeoning market for both mobile and social games."

PlayFirst also recently hired Eric Hartness, formerly of PlaySpan, as Vice President and General Manager of Social Games. Hartness will help lead the business that the recent financing round will fund.

PlayFirst has also hired Matt Levy as "Architect" of social games. Previously, Levy developed web personalization software for Loomia and worked on games for Nokia. Lars Berg, Roxanne Gibert, Ray Holmes and Vamsi Prakhya also joined PlayFirst from companies such as Playdom and Zynga.
