Microsoft Reports Higher Profits and Improved Performance of Xbox 360 Unit

For the quarter, Microsoft reported net income of $5.410 billion, compared to net income of $3.574 billion in the same quarter the previous year. Folks interested in gaming will be more interested in hearing how Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division (EDD) performed.

EDD reported revenues in the latest quarter of $1.795 billion compared to revenues of $1.412 billion in the same quarter the previous year. EDD also reported operating income of $382 million compared to operating income of $260 million in the same quarter the prior year.

Microsoft emphasized that strong sales of Xbox 360 consoles and games contributed strongly both to the EDD results and to Microsoft's bottom line. Microsoft said that "Xbox 360 platform revenue grew $409 million... primarily reflecting increased volumes of Xbox 360 consoles sold and higher Xbox 360 video game revenue led by Halo Reach.
