Sony Releases PlayStation 3 and PSP Firmware Updates Including PlayStation Plus

PlayStation 3Sony has launched its v3.40 firmware update for the PlayStation 3 hardware. Alongside the PlayStation 3 update is PSP firmware update v6.30, designed to ensure full compatibility with new features. Among the new features are security enhancements, support for the new PlayStation Plus program and Facebook support. For more details, read on:
Perhaps the most obvious addition released with update v3.40 is the addition of PlayStation Plus, the premium service for the PlayStation 3. For a subscription fee of $50 per year (with shorter subscriptions available) PlayStation 3 owners will get access to certain game content, premium demos and certain video content.


Other update elements include increased security options to allow Sony to better control the content on your console. The update includes the ability to share photos, rate PlayStation Store content, video editor and improved power saving options.

Finally, the update is associated with an updated PlayStation Network application on Facebook that provides even more access to Facebook from the PlayStation 3.
