Sony Computer Entertainment (the division that contains Sony's game operations) is part of "Networked Products & Services," which reported an operating loss of ¥83.1 billion compared to ¥87.4 billion in the previous year. Sony noted that "Sales in the game business decreased mainly due to unfavorable foreign currency exchange rates, decreases in unit sales of PSP hardware and of PlayStation 2 software."

Sony sold around 13.0 million PlayStation 3 consoles during the year and around 9.9 million PSP units during the year. Sony attributed improved profitability in the unit to products such as Walkman music players, "partially offset by deterioration in the game business."
