Activision Blizzard Reports Extremely Profitable Quarter

| | Comments (0)
Activision BlizzardActivision Blizzard announced its financial results for its fiscal first quarter ended March 31, 2010:
For the quarter, Activision Blizzard reported net income of $381 million, compared to net income of $189 million in the same quarter the previous year. Robert Kotick, Chief Executive Officer of Activision Blizzard credited the "better-than-expected" performance to the success of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and World of Warcraft.

Of the company's $1.237 billion in net revenues this latest quarter, MMOGs (World of Warcraft) constitute $306 million (24%) of net revenues. That's slightly down from $314 million in the same quarter the previous year, indicating that World of Warcraft is a stable revenue stream. The only reason World of Warcraft is a lower percentage of the company's income appears to be the massive success of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which drove net revenues by platform up to 29% of total revenues for the Xbox 360 and 23% for the PlayStation 3.
