THQ Announces Small Third Quarter Profit and Shifts Studio Focus

THQTHQ announced its financial results for its fiscal third quarter ended December 31, 2009. THQ also announced that it has refocused several of its development studios:
For the quarter, THQ reported net income of $542,000, compared to a net loss of $191.754 million in the same quarter the previous year.

By platform, the sales of Wii games provided 25.3% of revenues, DS games provided 21.0% of revenues, Xbox 360 games provided 17.5% of revenues and PlayStation 3 games provided 16.1% of revenues with other consoles making up the balance.

THQ also announced today that it is refocusing the efforts of two of its existing studios. Juice Games and Rainbow Studios are being renamed to THQ Digital Studios Warrington and THQ Digital Studios Phoenix. Both studios will focus on games that can be distributed digitally through platforms such as Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation Network and iPhone. As part of this process, THQ expects to fire 60 people between the two studios.
