GameStop Reports Quarterly Profit and Continued Importance of Used Game Sales
Retailer GameStop reported its financial results for its fiscal second quarter August 1, 2009:
The company reported net earnings of $38.685 million compared to net earnings in the same quarter the previous year of $57.163 million. The company blames the lower numbers on reduced consumer spending.
GameStop reported that the five top selling games for the quarter were UFC 2009 Undisputed, Prototype, Fight Night Round 4, NCAA Football 2010 and Ghostbusters. As in prior quarters, used game products continue to make up a large portion of GameStop's profits. Used game products comprised 32.3% of sales and 45.8% of gross profit for the quarter.
