Koei has been a force to be reckoned with in Asia for a long time, but has been a slowly growing presence in North America. From its start here as a publisher of niche tactical action and strategy games, Koei has grown tremendously, and is now decidedly a big boy in the gaming space. Koei even has a game coming next year developed in North America. At E3, only two of Koei's games were playable (Monster Racers and Warriors Orochi 2 for the PSP) and both are due out shortly (August 25), so I'll give you an overview of Koei's upcoming offerings rather than extensively preview things that will be out shortly. Here's what Koei has on tap:

Monster Racers
August 25, 2009 for the DS
Monster RacersMonster Racers has players searching the world for monsters to care for and train, and then race against other monsters. Races are side-scrolling platformer-style affairs, in which monsters can use their special abilities to overtake opponents and leap over obstacles. Racing does require skill, and players can race against up to three other players, or cruise the world racing against monsters to capture them and add them to your stable.

Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll
2010 for the PlayStation 3
Developer Omega Force has been the driving force behind the Dynasty Warriors games, and with Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll, Omega Force is creating an action-rich role-playing game set in the world of Koei's Zill O'll games. In this PlayStation 3 title, players control a band of three adventurers (a warrior, a wizard and an assassin) wandering prior to the events of the first Zill O'll game.

Warriors Orochi 2
August 25, 2009 for the PSP
Warriors Orochi 2Warriors Orochi 2 shipped last year for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2, and in August the game is coming to the PSP. This version of the tactical action game includes new modes and four more playable characters (bringing the total to 96). The PSP version looks and plays as well as the PlayStation 2 version already released, and allows mobile gamers to experience the tactical action game in which the Serpent King Orochi has kidnapped combatants from both the Dynasty Warriors franchise and the Samurai Warriors franchise to test his own might.

Warriors: Legends of Troy
Spring 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3
Warriors: Legends of Troy is being created by Koei's Canadian studio, and is an action game that draws heavily from Homeric Epics, with players participating in both sides of a version of the Trojan War that includes mythical beasts and divine influences. As one of the Trojans or one of the Greeks, players can grapple or battle with a variety of period weapons in colossal conflicts.
