Consume Sugar for Extra Items in The Sims 3
Electronic Arts has entered into a "multimillion-dollar marketing agreement" that will allow gamers to unlock special content in Electronic Arts games by purchasing Dr. Pepper products. While the extra income is surely something EA will enjoy, this is an unfortunate development for gamers:
The first game that will receive such content is The Sims 3. By entering codes on certain Dr. Pepper packaging, players will be able to unlock special items within The Sims 3. That's not so bad, but Tony Jacobs, Vice President of Marketing for Dr. Pepper specifically mentioned unlockable levels. Despite the marketing dollars that come in through such arrangements, they rarely result in additional content being developed for a game, so here's hoping that Dr. Pepper isn't costing future gamers maps or levels they might have otherwise received.
