GameStop Profits from Used Game Sales

GameStopRetailer GameStop reported its financial results for its fiscal first quarter ended May 2, 2009:
For the quarter, GameStop reported net earnings of $70.433 million compared to net earnings of $62.125 million in the same quarter the previous year. GameStop reported that sales were led by sales of the recently-launched DSi as well as Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV.

As in past quarters, nearly half of GameStop's profits came from used game sales. While used video game products only constituted 27.7% of sales during the quarter (compared to 38.9% from new video game software and 20.0% from new video game hardware), 48.1% gross profit came from the sales of used video game products.
