Electronic Arts Reports Billion Dollar 2008 Loss

Electronic ArtsElectronic Arts announced the preliminary financial results for its fiscal fourth quarter and fiscal year ended March 31, 2009:
For the quarter, EA reported a net loss of $42 million, compared with a net loss of $94 million in the same quarter the previous year. For the year, EA reported a net loss of $1.088 billion compared to a net loss of $454 million in the prior year. While the annual losses were larger than last year, they were smaller than analysts expected.

EA reported that its big sellers for the fourth quarter were Skate 2, The Lord of the Rings: Conquest, Left 4 Dead and Need for Speed Undercover. For the year, EA reported having 31 games that sold more than one million copies, with FIFA '09, Madden NFL '09 and Need for Speed Undercover each selling more than five million copies (Spore sold around two million copies).
