GameStop Reports Increased Holiday Sales and Sells Lots of Activision Blizzard Titles

| | Comments (0)
GameStopRetailer GameStop doesn't plan on releasing full financial information until mid-March, but did issue a preliminary report concerning its holiday sales.
For the nine-week period from November 2, 2008 through January 3, 2009, GameStop reports total sales of $2.856 billion, up 22% from the previous year. Comparable store sales increased 10%. (Translated, that means that roughly more than half of the sales increase came from stores that didn't exist last year, and so doesn't reflect increased purchases by previous customers.)

GameStop reported that the top five selling games for the holiday season were (in alphabetical order):

  • Call of Duty: World at War from Activision Blizzard

  • Gears of War 2 from Microsoft

  • Guitar Hero: World Tour from Activision Blizzard

  • Wii Fit from Nintendo

  • World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King from Activision Blizzard
