PlayStation Home Beta Opens to Everyone on December 11

PlayStation 3Sony officially declared that it will make the beta test for its Home service freely available on December 11. Home is Sony's long promised 3D social space for the PlayStation 3.
Home allows players to create a customized avatar (we expect that additional customizability will be made available for a fee) and wander around in both social and private spaces, viewing video content with friends, chatting, playing casual games or meeting up for PlayStation 3 gaming.

In particular, there are areas such as a bowling alley and movie theater (where promotional trailers can be viewed), private apartments and even a dance floor where avatars mix it up. Sony plans to launch virtual environments dedicated to individual games, creating a "more immersive" version of dedicated game chat rooms and message boards. Sony also plans to offer dedicated spaces to other interested businesses.
