EverQuest Games Open Item Shops

| | Comments (0)
Sony Online Entertainment has launched the item shop for EverQuest and EverQuest II. Players of SOE's premier massively multiplayer online game franchise can now purchase items that enhance their characters for Station Cash (which is a nice name for real money) from within the game.
This is something of a watershed moment for the games, which have been subscription-based games. While the EverQuest games have brought in additional income through charges for things like server transfers and character changes, this is a different category of charge. It's FI's view that microtransactions aren't compatible with monthly subscriptions if you can purchase items that are substantially more than cosmetic. Of course, games like City of Heroes and EverQuest II are striving to prove us wrong.
