MicrosoftMicrosoft announced its financial results for its fiscal quarter ended September 30, 2008.
For the quarter, the software giant reported net income of $4.373 billion, compared to net income of $4.289 billion in the same period the previous year.

Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division (EDD - the division that includes PC gaming and the Xbox 360) reported revenues of $1.814 billion (compared to $1.929 billion in the same quarter the prior year) and operating income of $178 million (compared to $167 million in the same quarter the previous year).

Microsoft noted that while Xbox 360 and PC Gaming revenue dropped by around $331 million, that can be accounted for almost in its entirety by the $330 million of revenues that came from the launch of Halo 3. The division's operating income increased "primarily due to decreased cost of revenue and sales and marketing expenses."
