EA Announces Second Quarter Loss, Plans to Fire 6% of Employees
Electronic Arts reported its financial results for its fiscal second quarter ended September 30, 2008.
For the quarter, EA reported a net loss of $310 million compared to a net loss of $195 million in the same quarter the previous year. As part of the company's announcement, EA confirmed that it plans to eliminate around 6% of its employees, with an expected pre-tax savings of $50 million.
In the quarter, 62% of the company's revenues came from North America, with Europe providing 34% and Asia providing 4%. By platform, 25% of revenues came from Xbox 360 games, with the PlayStation 3 following at 11% and the PlayStation 2 providing 6%. Other platforms provided the remainder of revenues.
