GameTap to Join Metaboli, TBS to Retain Stake but Exit Business

| | Comments (0)
Turner Broadcasting Systems made a big push into gaming when it opened its GameTap service, offering hordes of classic and a few new games to PC owners for a monthly fee. TBS even went so far as to buy substantial television and online advertising to support the launch of the site. Following a series of layoffs, TBS has lately been working to spin off or sell GameTap. TBS has now worked out a deal that will see GameTap combine with the Metaboli European service, with TBS taking an equity stake in the combined entity. TBS expects to have extricated itself from the day-to-day aspects of running GameTap by early 2009.
