EA Reports Usual First Quarter Loss

Electronic ArtsElectronic Arts reported the company's preliminary financial results for the fiscal first quarter ended June 20, 2008.
For the quarter, EA reported a net loss of $95 million, compared to a net loss in the same quarter the previous year of $132 million. The company named Battlefield: Bad Company, Mass Effect and Spore Creature Creator as the top releases of the quarter. Much of the company's operating expenses in the quarter were for research and development ($356 million) – the cost of making games for release in later quarters. It should also be noted that the company received considerable revenues from its co-publishing arrangements, particularly for Rock Band
