Take-Two Interactive Claims GTA 4 Breaks Sales records
Take-Two Interactive shipped Grand Theft Auto IV to stores last week, and declared that the game achieved all-time sales records in its first day and first week on shelves.
The first day that GTA 4 was on sale, Take-Two says the game sold 3.6 million copies for around $310 million. Within the first week, GTA 4 reportedly sold six million copies for around $500 million.
This is considerably higher than Halo 3's early sales, which Microsoft claimed set records. Microsoft reported $170 million in Halo 3 sales on the first day and $300 million of sales in the first week.
According to Microsoft, in the UK, the Xbox 360 version sold around 20% more copies of GTA 4 than the PlayStation 3 version. That claim is based on ELSPA/Chart-Track data.
