NCsoft Still Fighting Unauthorized Servers
NCsoft European office is taking action against those running unauthorized servers for NCsoft's games, such as Lineage II, Guild Wars and City of Heroes. NCsoft claims that "This action comes as a direct response to the rise of illegal online game servers throughout Eastern Europe, particularly in Greece and Russia where NCsoft’s fantasy-based online role playing game, Lineage II, is extremely popular."
NCsoft points out that in 2006 it shut down a US-based unauthorized Lineage II server run by L2Extreme.com. Last year it started a lawsuit against Internet Cafe business e-Global that led to four of e-Global's cafes being raided. More recently, several of e-Global's executives have been named as defendants in both criminal and civil cases to NCsoft's continuing efforts to punish those who ran unauthorized servers.
