Microsoft Reports Massively Improved Xbox 360 Sales
Microsoft released the financial results of its fiscal third quarter ended March 31, 2008.
For the quarter, Microsoft reported net income of $4.388 billion, compared to $4.926 billion in the same quarter the previous year.
Of more concern to gamers are the results of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices (ED) unit that includes the Xbox 360 and game-related operations. ED reported operating income of $54 million on revenues of $1.576 billion in the latest quarter compared to an operating loss of $345 million on revenues of $935 million in the same quarter the prior year. According to Microsoft, that improvement was mostly the result of increased sales of Xbox 360 consoles, games and Xbox Live revenue (particularly Halo 3). Microsoft noted that "Cumulative console sales surpassed 19 million during the quarter."
