HD DVD is Officially Dead

In its own words, "Toshiba Corporation today announced that it has undertaken a thorough review of its overall strategy for HD DVD and has decided it will no longer develop, manufacture and market HD DVD players and recorders."
Toshiba plans to support existing HD DVD owners, but is responding to the decision of several studios and stores to exclusively adopt Blu-ray. This appears to leave Blu-ray as the victor in the battle for the video format to follow DVD. Sony must be pleased. Toshiba plans to ship its last HD DVD players by the end of March.
