THQ to Acquire Big Huge Games
THQ plans to acquire developer Big Huge Games.
Developer Big Huge Games was founded in 2000 by Brian Reynolds, Jason Coleman, Dave Inscore and Tim Train and now includes RPG veteran Ken Rolston. The studio is located in Timonium, Maryland. Big Huge Games is currently working on an RPG for THQ (for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC) and multiple console projects.
While financial terms were not disclosed, THQ expects that the transaction will close shortly. Interestingly, THQ describes Big Huge Games as "a leading development studio focused on the Role-Playing Game (RPG) genre, a multi-billion dollar market segment." While describing this as an RPG investment to investors makes sense in the wake of the success of Mass Effect, much of Big Huge Games' expertise is in Strategy Games (such as Alpha Centauri, Catan and Rise of Nations).
