The Eye of Judgment Reaches Stores for the PlayStation 3

Sony has released its game The Eye of Judgment for the PlayStation 3.
The game is a collectible card game designed in collaboration with Hasbro's Wizards of the Coast division, and uses the PlayStation Eye camera. The idea is that cards can be scanned by the camera and maneuvered on a three-by-three grid such that the Eye will recognize codes on the cards and animate the results through the PlayStation 3. The game launches with around 100 different cards and requires a deck of 30 cards for play.

A bundle that includes the PlayStation Eye, the game, the battle mat, a stand for the Eye and a 30-card deck costs just under $70. Booster packs of eight cards will cost just under $4, while five different theme decks will be available for just under $15 each.

While early looks at the game make it seem exceptionally cool (at least for collectible card game fans), some of the tweaks made before release make us wonder why there are physical cards. To make online play fair, gamers have to register their decks online, and the PlayStation 3 will do the shuffling. Of course, when the whole of the game is already online, why mess with the physical cards, since you don't really need them?
