Microsoft released details on its financial performance in its fiscal quarter ended September 30, 2007.
For the quarter, Microsoft reported net income of $4.289 billion, compared to net income of $3.478 billion in the same period in 2006. As you might expect, Microsoft was overwhelmingly pleased to report these results, noting that this quarter represents the fastest revenue growth in this quarter since 1999.

The Entertainment and Devices Division (EDD) that includes the Xbox 360 and games (as well as devices like the Zune) reported revenues of $1.929 billion compared to revenues of $1.011 billion in the same period the prior year. EDD also reported operating income of $165 million compared to an operating loss of $142 million in the same quarter the previous year. A lot of this success ($330 million of it) is attributable to the launch of Halo 3, that has funneled plenty of cash into Microsoft's coffers.

Microsoft said that it shipped 1.8 million Xbox 360 consoles in this period (compared to 0.9 million consoles in the same period the prior year).
